Crochet charts are a valuable tool for makers. They help crocheters visualise their stitches and are international in recognition, eliminating much of the UK/US crochet translation that can effect sales.
Adding a chart to your designs will broaden their appeal to buyers and are a key element in making your designs stand out from other designers.
However, it can be difficult to find someone to make charts for you. Without the standardised way of working stitches that enables knitters to automate much of their chart making, crochet charts need to be drawn manually. Hiring a graphic designer or chart maker can be an expensive investment for a pattern of low value, with large motif charts often costing £200+ to design.
This course will teach you how to design your own crochet charts in a vector illustration programme (Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape required). We will cover an overview of both programmes, creating your own stitches, working in layers, how to craft a row-based chart, how to create motif charts using polar grids, exporting for use and much more.
