Just one 100g skein of 4ply makes a nice long crescent-shaped scarf for wrapping with a pretty puff stitch detail.

We planned for the pooling on a skein of Socka from Sparkleduck but it will work well with self-stripings and highly variegated yarns, too.

Size
Wingspan: 165cm/65in
Depth: 23cm/9in
Length is easily adjusted by working more or fewer rows. A deeper scarf can be achieved by working more repeats in the setup section. Altering the size alters the yarn required.

Materials

  • 1 100g skein Sparkleduck Socka (4ply, 80% Merino Superwash Wool, 20%nylon, 365m/100g) in Another 48 to Go.
  • 4.5mm (US 7) hook.

Tension
20 sts and 16 rows in pattern to 10cm/4in using 4.5mm hook (or size needed to achieve tension)

Difficulty Rating
Easy

Skills Needed
Basic crochet stitches, working in rows, increasing, missing stitches.

Construction
Started at one end, worked on the bias, an initial increase section is worked followed by a series of wedges that are all the same length.

This pattern is charted and written using standard UK crochet terminology (with US conversions given in the abbreviations)

Perfect pattern for Indie Skeins

Love this pattern! The 6 row repeat is easy to remember and really effective. It's brilliant for that 1 really special 4 ply variegated skein and shows off the colour beautifully. I'm in love with my first one which is a gift for a special birthday, will have to make one for me now 🤩

Magical pattern for busy skeins

This is a super simple, quick, 1 skein pattern. It's just perfect for 'busy' single skeins of 4ply/fingering that you buy on a whim and can't work out what to do with. The scarf is worked on the bias which means you see all the colours and get some interesting pooling effects. The finished scarf is a great size to wrap around your neck - but it does need blocking. As always the pattern is written clearly with good diagrams and photos.

Lovely pattern

A great project for when you have a single skein and don't know what to do with it! The simple design shows off the whole skein, and it works up quickly so would be great for a beginner looking to build their confidence.
It needs a good blocking when finished to show off the shape, so bear this in mind if you're averse to trying blocking

Beautiful one skein pattern

This is such a lovely pattern for that special skein of yarn hiding in your stash. I can definitely see me making more in the future.
