Size will vary based on the yarn amounts you have.
Materials
- Around 250g of assorted 4ply yarns in varying amounts.
- We used the following:
- A: 100 g skein Ripples Crafts Reliable Sock Yarn (4ply singles, 75% wool, 25% nylon 100g/428m) in shade The Happy Place (split into two balls of 35g each and two balls of 15g each)
- B: 50g skein Coop Knits Socks Yeah (4ply, 75% superwash merino, 25% nylon, 50g/212m) in Labradorite (split into two balls of 15g each and two balls of 10g each)
- C: 20g skein Rainbow Heirlooms Solo minis (split into two balls of 10g/40 yd each)
- D: 20g skein Vicki Brown Designs 4ply Sock ( 4ply, 75% wool, 25% nylon) in Amethyst (split into two balls of 10g/43 yd each)
- E: 20g skein Eden Cottage Yarns Brimham 4ply mini (4ply, 85% wool, 15% nylon) in Pennine Mist (split into two balls of 10g/44yd each)
- F: 25g ball Lamana Milano (4ply, 90% wool, 10% cashmere, 25g/180m) (note: this yarn is very light and airy, the the yardage of this ball is closer to 50g of most 4ply yarns)
- 4mm (US G) hook
- 1 stitch marker
Note: There is no need to divide your amounts up as we have but it is worth knowing the weight of the yarns you have as this will help you choose yarns as you progress. My yarns were divided as they were due to my incurable need for symmetry.
If you don’t want to weigh then you can use the numbers of rows as a guide, this is given in each section.
There are various points in the pattern where repetition and symmetry can be used so to include those then use at least similar (color or texture) yarns to make up the above (that is having a group of yarns totaling 100g to act as yarn A and another group of yarns totaling 50g acting as yarn B) will preserve the feel of the piece more.
Tension
3.5 shells reps and 10 rows in Shell1 Pattern (blocked) to 10 cm/4 in using 4mm hook (or size needed to achieve tension)
Block at the end of the increase section to check your tension/you are happy with the fabric as this will be around the same size as a swatch.
