At The Crochet Project we love a good shawl, perfect for all year round wear. It needs to have beautiful drape and an interesting pattern. A shawl is a perfect blank canvas for trying a new stitch pattern or technique. They are portable, quickly achievable and can be made from relatively little yarn.

In this book we share our love of shawls and show you the secrets of shaping them, tips for incorporating stitch patterns and a beautiful pattern demonstrating each shape.
All the examples use just one 100g skein of 4ply yarn, making these patterns the perfect stash buster or excuse to buy a special
skein.

Whether you’d like to make your first shawl, learn to design your own or just understand a little more about what makes them so special, this is the book for you.

Patterns are written using UK crochet terminology with US conversions given in the abbreviations section. Patterns are charted where appropriate. Schematics are provided throughout.

New Beginings.

I bought this book when it first came out and it was my first introduction to the crochet project. It taught me a lot and still have the shawls I made.

Excellent 1skein shawls

Ever been tempted by one of those one-of-a-kind hand dyed skeins, and then not know what to make? This book has the perfect answer with beautiful shawls that are all made with just one skein! ‘Northmoor Lock’ is so simple, but perfect for quick gifts, while my favourite, ‘Your Mileage May Vary’, looks very impressive but is actually quite easy, with great written and charted instructions. I have made lots of these patterns multiple times as gifts and for myself, what a treat to have a new shawl to brighten a dull day! The patterns are designed for 4 ply, but some, like Northmoor Lock, will work with DK yarn, although you might need more than 1 skein for some of the patterns.
I also love the design section, which explains how you go about designing your own shawl, something definitely on my to-do list for the future!
All in all, a must-have book you will return to time and again, making it excellent value for money!

Best Pattern book there is!

This book is an absolute treasure trove of patterns you will come back to again and again. I am very much a ‘process crafted’ and therefore very rarely make something more than once. But I have made every one of these patterns more than once. They are pretty quick to make and make perfect gifts. If you can bear to part with them! Something for everyone in terms of shape and you might find something new. There’s challenge enough to make them exciting for the experienced crocheter and the instructions are so clear that anyone can have a good go. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

The beginning of a great love

The Shawl Project Book One was, indeed, the first of many patterns I have bought from The Crochet Project. I have crocheted them all, some of them several times. The clear instructions are easy to memorise once you've gotten into the rhythm of a pattern and I would often take my project with me but leave the book at home. The Cherry Pie on the cover is definitely my favourite and I've several skeins of yarn in my stash bookmarked for this shawl.

My first ever purchase from the Crochetproject

I was new to crochet and I never thought I would be able to make any of those beautiful patterns in the book. Then I took it one stitch at a time. And Voila I did it ! I actually made Transposition 😍
- and then I made a second one, just because I was so high on my victory ✌🏻
Every single pattern is so well written.
